This book is a collection of private poems, prose and thoughts that were influenced by real life experiences and people while growing up in Canada and the travels in between from the late 1990s to early 2000s. This is the kind of book from me which is followed by a second book called Whispers of A Soul.

A Blink of Reality
We are born and will eventually die
yet it always makes us cry
As babies, we are innocent, and at times, shy
As adults, we are filled with rage and want to crucify
We journey, at times, alone
mixed with high emotions and the unknown
We seek love and admiration
We are still fighting for true emancipation
As life pushes us all on
we become weak, sad, happy, confused and eventually strong
The inevitable truth is that life goes on
so, being stuck in the past can prolong
the realization that things will not always last
It is then we should strive for peace and joy
instead of hatred, mistrust, and the many ways we destroy
for the space between life and death
is one of precious breaths
It is up to us to control our soul
before our existence is null, another life story told
Mumbles of Soul-poems, Prose and Thoughts is a plainly written poetic look at life and what it means to be human. Ajimati takes the reader on a journey where words act as the agent for finding truth and love.
Â
The poetry uses basic rhymes and rhythm to create an evocative sense of being. Through the everyday language Ajimati uses, the reader gains a sense of the importance of staying sane in a world where insanity reigns. The reader clearly sees what Ajimati is trying to say however there is the slightest hint of ambiguity that adds a mystery, an ‘unknowing’, and a confusion to the world of the writer. Â
Â
The author questions himself while paradoxically jumping to conclusions and therefore the reader is led on a similar journey of questioning and discovery. Mumbles of Soul-poems, Prose and Thoughts is a courageous read. It strips off the edge of humanity dignity to reveal the real people in all it’s simple plainness. It encourages honest scrutinisation of oneself as an individual, of those around one, and of humanity on a grander scale. The reader learns a little of what it is to be human, to make mistakes, to be humble, to see the world differently and to grasp it more fully.
Â
While doing so, Mumbles of Soul-poems, Prose and Thoughts occasionally keeps things too simple in some places. It forms broad, assumed opinions and isn’t overly original – the reader can sometimes get lost in the repetition and collective ideas put forth in the book. But it would be a good read for anyone unfamiliar with prose poetry and poetry in general. It offers a simple, readable look at life and the challenges that come with it, while employing basic poetical structures to communicate to the reader what life means, what it is, and what it feels like.   Â
