Have you ever seen how a big wave breaks and swallows up the shore? Did you ever wonder how the wave grew so large and whether it came from somewhere far? Maybe waves aren't always waves. Maybe they're just little ripples that joined together to create big waves, starting slow and small and growing steadily together. Take inspiration from this beautiful example from nature as you discover how people can create ripples too- by planting a tree, by cleaning up litter, by overcoming challenges that set us back, and by working together as one. Individually, our small actions, like ripples, can set in motion great waves of change, and it all starts with one person.

The 'ripple effect theory' is a simple yet profound concept that states that every action we take, no matter how small, can have a much larger impact. Just like a small pebble thrown into a pond creates ripples that spread outwards, our positive actions can create a ripple effect, leading to positive change locally and (possibly) globally. Little Ripples, Big Waves asks readers to ponder these questions: Have they ever seen a big wave or heard a wave wash over the sand in a giant roar? How do you believe the wave grew so large? Was it always so great? Is it possible it's not a wave after all? Could the wave stem from a 'ripple'? Little Ripples, Big Waves beautifully illustrates how a single positive action might be perceived as a small 'ripple,' but when one small act leads to two, and then two leads to three, and so forth, each act or human-made ripple combines to create a 'large wave.'
In this delightful and inspiring children's book, the artist drew a community coming together to beautify a green space by planting trees and/or shrubbery, watering plants, removing branches, and hanging a birdhouse to welcome visitors. Each act (ripple) comes together to move as one, creating a powerful wave to unite the world. We need this now more than ever!
I strongly recommend reading Little Ripples, Big Waves and following in the characters' footsteps: work to create a positive change. Are you stumped on how you can make a difference? Check out the "Create your own ripples" page, where the author lists a few suggestions on how to make a change for the betterment of your community and world!
Remember, there are no small acts because each ripple counts in the grand scheme of life, so let's band together to make a positive change in the world!
My recommended reading age is three years and up.
