Writing is one of the most fundamental skills children must learn in order to be successful in school and in life. This book focuses on this process specifically by teaching children how to form letters. At the beginning of the book, readers will find four pages of tracing charts that include both capital and lowercase letters. Each letter is accompanied by numbered arrows that help children learn which pieces are to be drawn in which order.
Following a special page where a child’s name can be written to prove ownership, the remainder of the book is made up of pages of lines for handwriting practice. Two solid, horizontal lines border a dashed line in the middle to guide the construction of letters. Additionally, each page can be cut out if desired for ease of access or transport.
Families looking for ways to encourage their fledgling writers to practice this important skill will find ample opportunity in this book. 120 pages of blank lines form the bulk of the book itself, and vertical markers indicate where each page can be cut out. Despite there being many lines on which to practice writing, however, the same format is not used on the page where the child can write their own name. This may prove challenging for children who wish to write their own name on this page.
Adult guidance will be required as children learn the proper formation of each letter, but as their confidence grows, children will have many pages on which to perfect their abilities. If all the pages remain connected, families will enjoy observing the child’s progress from a novice to a more proficient writer.
A message from the author at the beginning of the book invites readers to join a special Facebook group where a gift card and free downloadable material can be won, increasing the interactivity of this book beyond writing itself.
Overall, this book is a useful purchase for families with young children who are learning to write.
