Hudi and Tux is the first book in a series written by Andrew Waner III, to teach children how to care for and be responsible for looking after a dog. The series is based on a young boy named Hudson (Hudi) and his dog Tux. Hudi and his family rescue Tux from a shelter. This series shows how Hudi learns to care for his new best friend.
There are two main characters in this delightful book – Tux, a gorgeous black and white rescue dog and Hudi (Hudson), an 8-year-old boy. Hudi wanted a puppy for his birthday, so his parents take him to an animal rescue shelter. There he falls in love with Tux, a black and white puppy who is set to become his new best friend.
Hudi and Tux teaches children about Learning the importance of taking care of a dog. Specifically, feeding a dog. Hudi needs to learn how to take care of his new pet. He makes mistakes but learns from these. The lessons in this book (and presumably the following books) are important and relevant to any child who is going to have a pet.
This picture book has everything I enjoy in a story for children: a moral or lesson, interesting, engaging and authentic dialogue and of course bright, eye-catching illustrations. The lesson is this book is not only about feeding a dog, but also that it is ok to make and learn from our mistakes. The dialogue feels genuine and authentic and adds interest to the story. The illustrations in Hudi and Tux would be appealing to all ages – they are bright and vivid and drawn in a cute cartoon type style. Heidi and Tux is a delightful book. I award this great picture book 5 stars!
