Dear Reader;
My name is Birathos, and I am the leading guardian angel assigned by God to train, support, and guide newly assigned guarding angels. The angels’ primary purpose is to protect and guide their assigned humans. I commission angels at the time of human conception. Our primary purpose is to thwart Satan’s demons’ efforts to corrupt human souls. Know that failure to keep the soul from doing evil and not repenting causes great anguish to the Father. Failure by a soul to repent may, upon its death, result in it being consumed at the demons’ feast. We have assigned guarding angels to humans since the beginning of time. Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam speak of guarding angels in their teachings. Their beliefs may dictate various protection tasks, but all have guarding angels protecting their charges. I have shared with you my letters sent to one particular guarding angel (Leuviah). As you are reading, note the trials and challenges this young man moves through in his life and the outstanding efforts Leuviah implements to keep her charge safe and in God’s grace. In that the Father has given free will to his children, guarding angels cannot directly intervene in their charges’ decision process. They may whisper positive influences but cannot directly cause the events to occur. We have trained the angels to protect their charges when danger occurs. One exception is if the human’s name is written in the Book of Life. The Book reflects a specific date and time that the life is to end. As you read the letters and discover the wonderful work Leuviah has done to protect her assignment, it may cause you to pause and reflect on dangerous events in your own life that may have left you wondering how you survived. Maybe a medical professional told you it was a MIRACLE you survived, and you were uninjured. There are events in the proceeding letters that depict just that, instances when Leuviah wrapped her wings around Lyle (her charge), saving him from harm. The primary question is, how will Lyle grow—in Christ’s grace or devolve to the lowest levels of corruption and evil?
Angel of God, Briathos
If you’re looking for an unusual read that packs a punch, consider Guardian Angels. Clever and quick, this faith-flavored story chronicles one man’s life story as seen through the eyes of heavenly angels Briathos and Leuviah. In the tradition of C.S. Lewis’s The Screwtape Letters, the peaks and valleys of Lyle’s life are revealed through a series of correspondence between these two angels.
Briathos is an angel who thwarts demons. He trains and monitors all Guardian Angels as they work to protect their assigned humans. Leuviah helps those who call upon her to combat human malice. She is Briathos’s prodigy and is assigned to protect Lyle as the dark side tries to capture and corrupt his soul.
There’s plenty of action as well as spirituality in these pages as readers follow Lyle’s life on this terrestrial ball. Readers encounter struggle, confusion, anger, loss and sorrow along the way. They also find hefty doses of guidance, grace, help, hope, love, and triumph. High adventure surrounds Lyle’s career with the navy and beaucoup technical details regarding naval deployments and ships add a layer of authenticity and grit to this intriguing narrative.
Minor caveats: The formatting needs work. Nothing turns off a potential reader like being greeted by a giant wall of text. Paragraph breaks are in short supply, often not even for dialogue or shifts in POV or subject. This makes the read difficult and tiring. The text could also benefit from another proofread and a professional edit.
Meanwhile, each chapter or epistle glides smoothly into the next. Characters are full-bodied and action abounds. The author does an excellent job of conveying the intensity and immensity of spiritual battles taking place in the unseen realm. A Prologue and a Glossary of Terms are included. The Prologue ably introduces the concept of guardian angels and provides some crucial background for same. The Glossary will help readers keep names, missions, and characters straight.
Some readers may take issue with some of the religious themes or tenets presented in this book. Ditto its version of angelology and soteriology. But this is a work of fiction, not a doctrinal treatise. So take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the ride. It’s well worth the time.
