We often ask children, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" as if they'll have it all figured out before they leave elementary school. As kids grow and mature, their interests shift, and usually, their career choice does as well. New talents, likes, and dislikes emerge, causing many to reevaluate their life goals. This is not limited to children. Adults, too, change their focus as they face new adventures and try to discover what they are passionate about. It's all about finding one's place in the world.Â
Fox, the main character, was in a quandary about which job to choose. Police officer, fisherman, firefighter—they all seemed good on paper, but each turned out NOT to be the perfect fit for Fox for various reasons. Fox's career dilemma was more than just selecting a job; it was about finding his place in the world. We all have special skills, talents, qualities, strengths, or interests that make us...us. Fox's story encourages us to look at ourselves and embrace what makes us...well, us. Fox realized his speed, stealthiness, superb hearing and smell, bravery, intelligence, and curiosity were all exceptional qualities needed to be a superhero. The town cheered for Foxman; they labeled him their hero. While we all can't be superheroes, Fox's story reminds us that we can be anything we want to be if we believe in ourselves.Â
There are several compelling reasons to recommend this story. First, kids will love Fox's adorable superhero outfit. Second, I applaud the story's emphasis on positivity and self-love. Third, the inclusion of 'Little Discuss Questions' is a brilliant way to engage readers and encourage them to share their 'super powers.'Â
