Forever, It's We by Amanda McDowell is a lovely children's picture book that points out beautifully several sweet moments between a mother and child.
Time moves so quickly. One minute you're holding your newborn, and in the next, they are adults. Forever, It's We captures a typical day between a parent (mother, in this case) and their child. In this sweet tale, we see a mom and son join together in imaginative play, cooking, enjoying breakfast together, singing, dancing, playing inside and outside, and taking a well-deserved nap. Parents can relate to every scene. Especially the need for a nap!
Children are a ball of energy, as this book illustrates perfectly. Speaking of illustrations, I love all the images. The picture of the child and Siamese cat sleeping under the covers together was so precious. It reminded me of our Siamese kitty. The sugar glider was cute too, and a new animal name for young children to learn. The continuous soft tones make this a perfect naptime or bedtime story.
I agree with Amazon's recommended reading age, baby - 5 years.
Due to the simple and (sometimes) repetitive text, this would also make a great first book for children learning to read. Plus, it's under 30 pages; a perfect size so younger readers won't become overwhelmed with a lot of text and numerous pages.
Even though Forever, It's We is a story about a day in the life of a mom and her son, anyone parent can read it. Dads are primary caregivers too.
I will recommend this story to families with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergartners. I also encourage daycares and schools to add this to their reading shelf. It would make a great addition to public libraries too!
I loved this book, and I think you and your children will love it too!
