A compilation of personal reflections marked by sharp prose and intense emotion.
This book of prose is yours. It’s really a book of letters.
Some of this I don’t precisely remember what or who I was writing about. Some of this I’ve just been terrified to share. Some of this probably won’t make sense to you. Some of this is me talking to myself. Some of this is me talking to you. Some of this is healing and kind. Some of this is toxic and ugly. Some of this is for me and it is personal. Some of this is for you and it is advice. Some of this is inclusive, but most of this is exclusive.
Take your time.
For every prose there is a blank page for you to write.
Write how you feel about the prose I’ve written.
Write what comes to mind, what hurts, what tickles.
Write whatever you like.
Exclusivity is a compilation of brief, thoughtful reflections or ruminations on a wide variety of topics. Self-described as a “book of prose poetry that feel(s) like letters,” the content is “about self thought, self talk, self reflection, self encouragement, self inspiration.”
There is a lot of emotion in this little book. Emotions described and chronicled range from love, presence, fear, loss, expectations, and boundaries to fragility, strength, and friendship. There aren’t any chapters per se. The text is arranged in free verse format. Each entry is numbered. A central or unifying theme is open to interpretation.
Each entry is followed by a page or two of an empty box or blank page. Intended to encourage interaction, these areas are for the reader to “fill this box with your thoughts or your doodles.” Entries are heartfelt and earnest. Most of them are brief and to the point and arranged in numeric order. For instance, “#10” starts with, "There are two kinds of people in the world.” The entire entry is three sentences and twenty words. Entry number twenty six is two sentences and seven words. Few entries are longer than a page. Some could be categorized as self-centric while others project cynicism. Several are questioning, introspective, and reflective.
This is a fast, quick read if you chose to do so. Sentences are usually staccato-short and sharp. Contents are well-organized and the book is structurally sound. But if you are looking for a gentle, uplifting read, keep looking. This is not it. Some content will probably turn off and/or alienate some readers. There is also a lot of emotion in the prose. Some readers will see this as raw, intense, and honest. Others may see it as an angry rant, querulous and bellicose. Whether or not it will appeal to a broad audience is open to question.
