"Empty Ocean" is a perfect resource guide when teaching elementary students about the ocean.

Synopsis

What would the ocean be like if it were empty? Would that take place in our lifetime? How could we live in a world where there are no fish? What would happen to humans? Find out why the ocean is so important, what is happening to fish, and what you can do to stop this from happening. It takes one person to change the fate of the ocean, one step at a time.

"What would the Ocean be like if it were empty? Would that take place in our lifetime? How could we live in a world where there are no fish? What would happen to humans?" F. P. Masi addresses these crucial questions in Empty Ocean, a picturesque children's non-fiction book.

I regularly speak to my children about the importance of preserving our waters and those who call it home. Pollution, overfishing, climate change, and poaching are common threats to our ocean friends, and humans need to respect the water and those who live in it.

Empty Ocean asks, "In less than 50 years, will ALL the fish be gone?" People might scoff at that question, but it's a real possibility. This picture book educates young readers on the importance of water, how much of Earth's surface is covered by it, and the number of sea animals killed by plastic pollution. The number is staggering!

The discussion of plastics will lead to terminology that will be new to many readers. The author does a great job breaking down many words and explaining them in a way school-age children can understand. Due to the complexity of words, definitions and pronunciation, I recommend this book to older elementary students. FYI: There's a handy glossary after the story's conclusion.

Empty Ocean educates the listening audience about products that come from the ocean. I bet young readers might be surprised to discover that certain lipsticks might contain a sharky element. It also teaches children about dead zones: places in the ocean with zero oxygen, no fish, and only algae. I imagine many children and adults would be shocked at how many of these exist!

Empty Ocean is a perfect resource guide when teaching elementary students about the ocean. There is so much information covered. Despite the dangers ocean dwellers face and how humans benefit from them, this story lists the decline in the numbers of these majestic animals. They also gave the dollar amount of the most expensive tuna ever sold. Spoiler alert...it's a lot. Before you tell the answer to your child or class, have them take a guess first.

If your family isn't familiar with all the fishing styles, you will be after you read this book. You'll be horrified to read about the horrific effects fishing has on the ecosystem. You might even consider removing fish from your diet.

Fish, seahorses, sharks, whales, seals, sea turtles, reefs, and much more are spotlighted in this book, educating the readers on how what we do now affects their survival. The author shares ten ways "You can make a difference." They also share organizations devoted to saving the ocean and how you can support their efforts. It encourages us all to do better.

Saving the ocean inhabitants is a job we all must commit to! Do your part before all the sea-life you love becomes endangered or vanishes for good.

Since I believe in the conservation of our waters, I recommend everyone read this book!
