Stefan Liner (1989) was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Jay and Robin Liner but grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina around ⁸Asheville where he currently resides. He is the eldest of six children and was home-schooled through all twelve grades. Even as a young boy Stefan had a propensity toward creativity, world building and storytelling. He and his siblings would spend hours after school exploring the outdoors around their country home, building forts and going on all kinds of themed adventures. Although he had no lack of creativity, an area that became a challenge for Stefan was learning to read. One day he would make great strides and the next it seemed as if he had forgotten everything he had just learned. It was very frustrating for Stefan to see his friends reading big books like the Hobbit, while he struggled to get through a small 150 page book. However, eventually his mother's persistence paid off and Stefan slowly became a more proficient reader. That new found ability to read, quickly lead to writing and Stefan's propensity for creativity now had a new medium on which to be expressed. Over the years, Stefan has pursued many forms of storytelling, from performing in plays, to producing and directing for screen. From 2016 to 2018 Stefan teamed up with his mom to write and produce the award winning Web-series "When Fact Fact Fiction" which was released by their company Liner House. The media company focuses on producing family friendly stories about "Ordinary people with extraordinary lives". Currently they are working together on "The Curious World of Eddie Billings" book series. A series that follows Eddie Billings, a reclusive conspiracy theorist that believes his parent's untimely death was not an accident, as he has been told, and is set on finding out what really happened. The first book of the series, "Eddie & The Lizard Man" is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2020.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2020As the first installment to a mystery series, this book gives you a nice intro to the main character without revealing to much info . . . just yet. Here you learn about a quirky guy who has a penchant for easy cheese, beef sticks, Slurpees & conspiracy theories. Combined with his active imagination and the ample time he has to mentally pursue the theories while working at a local antique store; Eddie has come up with some far fetched ideas about his boss and the safety of the people of Linemell (town the story is set in) . . . or are they??
While sorting through the daily distractions, Eddie continues to receive conspiracy inspiration from his favorite radio show, Mann's Conspiracies, discusses these possibilities with his friend, Dog, and figures out how to pursue the quest for truth with the occasional interjection from the narrator/author . . . similar a character breaking the "4th wall" on TV or in a movie. In this case, it's whether or not a reptilian race has invaded Linemell & what does that mean for the safety of its citizens??
Eddie follows the clues, faces the odds & does his best to discover the truth. And while he does make some interesting discoveries; there's still enough mystery left for the many books that I'm sure this series will contain.
Great young adult series with fantastic illustrations throughout!
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2020Wonderful imagery, interesting and quirky characters, and descriptive, suspenseful storytelling that immerses you from the start into the world of Eddie Billings! Illustrations are well conceived and a map gives the reader an understanding of where things in the story occur! This looks to be the start of an intriguing series for even the most reluctant reader!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 7, 2020Eddie & The Lizard Man by Stefan Liner and Robin Liner, Illustrated by Josef Liner is a wonderful mystery about a man with a very active imagination. However, while his imagination may get the best of him at times, he also may be closer to the truth that he originally expected!
This is another review that I just have to begin by discussing the cover! How cool is that artwork first of all, but second, did you see the characters in each of the letters of Eddie’s name?! I love that feature! This cover certainly draws me in!
When beginning the book, I was thrilled to see that there is an illustration of a map displaying the town. I love when maps are included to really get a feel for the setting overall right off the bat.
Each chapter begins with a wonderful illustration. I always love when illustrations are scattered throughout a story! In this case with the tale being written for middle grade, I think this is an extra special feature as it helps to keep readers engaged as it continues to spark their imagination.
The story centers around Eddie Billings, an overly-curious conspiracy theorist, who never goes anywhere without his pen and a notepad with a cover that reads, My Particularly Interesting Findings.
Eddie has a job working at an antique shop that is owned by Kevin Kennedy. In this shop, he has been finding shed snake skins, but is curious because he hasn’t yet seen an actual snake. When he begins to suspect that his boss is a lizard-man and that the skins he is finding is actually from a lizard, Eddie decides to follow his boss after work. But what is his boss up to, and will Eddie get caught?
This story was so much fun to follow along. Younger readers will absolutely love the main character and his wild imagination. They will also love the mystery surrounding the boss who definitely comes across as the bad guy of the story.
Like all good mysteries, there is some sleuthing involved in which Eddie winds up in a tough spot.
I LOVED that the narrator broke in and spoke directly to the reader from time to time. This is an element that I will never get sick of seeing when it’s done in a way that keeps things interesting! My favorite example from this book is when the narrator breaks in to explain that Dog is a friend not a pet, and that Dog and Eddie have a type of communication that only they can understand. The narrator mentions that they do not have the ability to understand Dog’s accent as, “it’s simply too strong.” And, “Therefore, I cannot offer an accurate translation.” This had me cracking up!
While this one has been categorized as middle grade, I would recommend it for readers at the tail end of that age group/reading comfort level as the vocabulary here doesn’t shy away from using words that may need to be looked up. For example; countenance, compounded, bolstered, bravado, congenial, apprehension, domineering, inquisitively, vexed, and others. That being said, I think this is wonderful as the reader can also learn while enjoying a great mystery!
This is an all round wonderful read! I saw on Goodreads that this is tagged as book one. If you have a middle grade reader in your home, this is definitely a book/series to keep an eye on!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 16, 2020Funny, quirky tale about an odd but likeable guy who finds himself irresistibly drawn into the strange circumstances of his discoveries at his job at an antique store and his boss's bizarre behavior. The correlation seems unbelievable, but a series of events set the stage for a stunning revelation. Looking forward to reading the next installment!
