Dan as the years grow longer I simply want you more
Do we not share the same bed
To lie next to each other and nuzzle our nose
Look into your eyes, your beautiful blue eyes as my hands grace your cheeks
Feeling the gentle breathe as I move my lips against yours
Feeling our chests rise and fall
I want this feeling to last and not wither away two beautiful roses
We complement one another
A strong mature man who has wits strong as the ocean waves
A man who is and endured relentless storms of pain
A young kid who has everything going for him
A seed planted when we met
I am growing beside you and you entwined with me
Is it to much to ask for some cuddling time and to make love
To make dear sweet love
The other night I wanted to just hold you and ride that big cock
Feeling it enter and be swallowed up inside me
Thrusting and thrusting feeling every little move
Leaning down and kissing you lightly
I dreamt of kissing you and holding you last night
Very peaceful and relaxing
Is it to much to ask to spend ten more minutes out of the day making love like we were meant to be together
To say nay to solitaire and yes to Brett's luscious lips
Devotion: A Collection Of Poems is a 149 page consolidation of love and affection, penned by the author Brett A. Gordon. Already an established author, having published the non-fiction title The Young Investor's Roadmap to Success in 2021, Devotion: A Collection Of Poems is Gordon's first venture into published poetry.
Witing in the opening devotion, Gordon states that this collection is in honour "to my dearest Daniel, the strength you have given to me over the course of 17 years is written in these words. From love’s weakness, time and dedication have strengthened the love we have. The shoots of the seeds we have sown are sweet and healthy. The love for writing is my tool to speak to you." It is with this same level of incomparable love and consideration that the rest of the book is laid out.
Split into three chapters: Dearest Daniel, Poetry and Jeffrey and Mary Ellen, with subsequent poems under each, Gordon's poetry style is heavily influenced by the experiences and emotions encountered over the past 17 years. This amount of time passing has allowed for Gordon to consider, reflect and refine the poems that we see today on the page. Several personal favourites from the collection include, "Another Shot in the Pages", "Sweet Sherry" and "Rainy Day", for its particularly touching account of a visitation to the memorial stone of a close relative. The collection centres around themes of family, love and lust, and the sometimes uneasy relationship all three can have when it collides with faith and religion.
The standard of poetry and prose within Devotion is good for the audience it is aimed at. The poetry structure are all around the same length, written in a single stanza format, deploying the use of limited and half rhymes. The description of the various environments and situations is limited at best, and for most readers it will be hard to place themselves in the worlds Gordon is trying to create.
A collection that has been penned with love and thought, Devotion: A Collection Of Poems, provides warming poetry that speaks directly to the love Gordon has for who have made him into the man he is today. As a debut poetry collection, it is good, but shows plenty of areas of developmental growth in the craft. While right now this lacks the qualities of a five star read, there are many signs of promise in Gordon's talents and plenty of hope for the future.
