To have someone able to awaken your inner strength and allow you to blossom with no judgments.
A person that's not trying to change who you are but influences what you're meant to be.
That special individual who can recognize you are not just a person that requires a sexual playmate.
But simply a soul who desires to have a companion that compliments, supports, as well as enhances your purpose with their presents.
Giving everything that you’ve got.
Does anyone even know what that means for you?
Your bare soul.
Those hidden keys
The secrets that you hold.
As well as your mind completely beginning to unfold.
Do they even fathom what that can do to you?
Causing you to become naked for a judgmental view.
As you only give the honesty of who you truly are.
With a possible chance of a game that you are capable to lose.
But let’s put this in the best perspective.
This individual is understanding.
So, not only is this your potential partner.
But also, your new best friend.
You will always be here to protect and defend.
Because your heart will only be theirs,
No need to pretend.
Every obstacle will be conquered,
If they continuously hold your hand.
No facades to display,
just them encountering you.
If they can.
Are you aware of what you will be signing yourself into?
Knowing that not only do you want them to take you for who you are.
But you must reciprocate the same acceptance too.
Please don’t have a moment of misconceptions.
This is practically realities truth.
The funny thing is no matter how much of yourself that you give.
It's not always guaranteed that this person will accept you.
So, you keep your guards up for the potential fight to choose.
Between losing yourself to this individual or
potentially finding the person that’s best for you.
Then again you have to ask yourself.
Can you provide the things that you are seeking to gain from this person?
Even when gaining all that you acquire.
Will you be willing to accept the things you don't like, or will you go looking again?
Is what you’re seeking enough or is it only admired until things must be worked out?
By Victoria Halton
I wouldn't call myself a poetry expert, just to make sure that's known. However, this collection of poems from Victoria Halton enveloped me in a cocoon of emotions because it was abundantly clear that every single word published in each and every poem came from her soul.
That's the thing with poetry. It has to come from the writer's very being. You could read a poem which English teachers will tell you are perfect; it follows the rules of poetry with the right amount of stanzas and rhymes in the proper places. But just because that poem has been manufactured to hit all of the 'correct' criteria, it might not actually be any good - especially if it doesn't actually evoke an emotional response in the reader. So, for the purposes of this review, that's what I'm judging this collection on. Whether they've evoked an emotional reaction within myself. And I can honestly, hand on heart say, that each poem in this collection has got to me in one way or another.
The first few of these poems are about love - no, that's almost too simple a description of what they're about. They're about making that deep, meaningful, almost telepathic connection with another person; whether they're your one true love or your love right now. They discuss sex in the abstract, with references to books and games; and discuss ways to be connected without having to be intimate. But they're all, most importantly, about seeing beyond the shiny, perfect exterior and inside to the real person.
Then there's the poems which delve deeper into the psyche; showing you that sometimes what you see really is what you get. That surrounding yourself with toxic people who continuously drain your own mental resources is not healthy. One poem, in particular, spoke to me in a way that no other poem ever has - TO SEE (Remake) so accurately describes the way I was once treated by an individual, I had tears in my eyes.
Some of the poems are long, and some are short. All are heartfelt. All are accompanied by a beautiful image, capturing the poems themes. All are exceptional.
