The most intriguing character is the digital AI continuation of Lucy Chen. Initially created as an extension of Lucy's mind, the AI continuation only exists to help solve a medical problem. But when the technology begins "making its own choices," the continuation becomes something more. What begins as a digital copy gradually acquires human-like decision-making abilities.
The technical explanations are very detailed, which adds credibility to the story. A blend of medical research, artificial intelligence development, and corporate espionage will appeal to readers of technical thrillers. But this book is not just a techno-thriller—it also sounds the alarm about the potential dangers of corporate abuse of emerging technologies and the misuse of artificial consciousness. Bennett raises intriguing questions about identity and consciousness and the ethics of AI. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Continuance. It is definitely a 5-star read!
