My children love to colour in at the best of times, which is a blessing in this day and age of technology dominance.
This colouring book kept them away from their screens for hours, whilst giving us something new to bond with. The illustrations weren't too overwhelming for them to do alone, and they enjoyed matching the numbers to the colours. There are so many to choose from too, that this book is keeping them going!
The written words to the colour indicators are also clear, so that they can be filled in with the matching colour themselves, which is perfect for both pre-school and primary school-aged children.
The colouring book comes with three levels, easy, medium and hard. For our house, this meant that not only did this book suit all ages, from 5-14, but it also encouraged my younger children to try different difficulties and allowed me to acknowledge their strengths and weaknesses in terms of pencil control, concentration and abilities.
On a personal level, I enjoyed all three levels, as a colouring-in fan. I liked the simplicity of the level one drawings and the complexity of level three; each level had its place, depending on the day and the mood of the children.
There are a wide range of animals to choose from, varying from butterflies and hedgehogs to camels and giraffes. We would go through and decide which land or sea mammal we were colouring in together each day and go from there. With four very different characters in the house, I was very grateful for the diversity of the pages, allowing for them to take in turns with choosing and knowing that there were so many other pictures of their choosing to be had.
Overall, I think this colour-by-number for children and indeed family time is a brilliant idea, and we certainly had fun doing it together.
