Review

"A reflective collection that effectively balances themes of hardship and hope." - Kirkus Reviews

"Well-written, powerful and accessible, this is a thought-provoking set of poetry."
- The Wishing Shelf

"
Clouds on the Ground by Autumn Williams is a powerful collection that delves into the human experience through themes of time, loss, and dreams. Each poem evokes deep emotions, reflecting the fragility and resilience of life. With vivid imagery and lyrical grace, Williams invites readers to find solace in nature's beauty and the quiet strength that comes from within. This collection is a profound testament to the endurance of hope, even in the face of uncertainty." - Phillip Callaghan, singer/songwriter and author of 'Never Alone' and 'Nature Notes'

"Several of the poems gave me the illusion of floating on clouds and imagining brighter days. Those with chronic illness will definitely relate with the poems in this book, but I could also see this book resonating with those who struggle with depression or anxiety." -
Victoria Gehman, author of 'Slow Your Pace, Hope a Little Longer' and 'Words for Weary Wanderers'

"
Clouds on the Ground is such a stunning concept. It's an incredible story of regaining personal power through poetry, hoping, and dreaming...I am very impressed with this work." - Alexandra Lee Hug, author of 'Poetry From The Dark Night Of The Soul' and 'Turn Life Lessons Into Poetic Expressions'

"Autumn bends seasons, imagery, and lyrics to her whim in
Clouds on the Ground. Her poems unwind a journey that embraces different perspectives in uncontrollable circumstances. I may never look at grey clouds the same way again. This is a gorgeous collection that belongs on bookshelves everywhere." - Cheryl Cantafio, author of 'My Stay with the Sisters' and 'A Place No Flowers Grow'

Influenced by the trials of her current illness, Autumn Williams explores the full spectrum of emotions she experienced during the acclimation phase to the illness. What the author once knew, has seemingly become lost; extreme pain led her to seek refuge, often escaping in daydreams. These emotions and experiences form the primer of 'Clouds on the Ground'.

While the book discusses themes of time, loss, and dreams, to simply stop there in a description of this wonderful book, would be a total travesty. The poems in this book, while discussing the pain, the author clearly offers a sense of hope and a determination to recapture seemingly lost parts of herself- "I found you in the pages of a story in my mind", rediscovering herself through these poems; "I can walk in poetry [returning] to places I can't reach."

While enduring the frustration of having wings and not being able to soar in dreams, "She is ready for a sunrise." Autumn Williams displays an unbridled sense of courage and determination, all while sharing a complete sense of vulnerability to create this collection of poetry. This book coupled with the author's story are the epitome of inspiration, to confront the challenges of life and appreciate the little things we often take for granted. 'Clouds on the Ground' belongs in a prominent place on any poet's bookshelf.

This is one of the most incredible poetry books I have ever read. The author is truly very talented and has a beautiful way of stringing words together.

While there were few poems that stood out to me, I felt like much of the poems were too abstract. As if they were drifting thoughts, but you didn’t know what the message was because they were too brief.

But as I looked through the full book, I could see how the poems had an artistically connected vibe of being in the clouds. There’s definitely aspects of time, grief, and dreams but they felt so distant. It might just be my perspective.

This book was good, but I feel like it could have had more to really give an impact.

In the realm of words, this poetry book stands as a masterpiece, a treasure trove of emotion and imagery. Each poem weaves a delicate tapestry, threading the heartstrings with every line. The poet’s voice is raw, yet refined—an echo of universal truths wrapped in vivid, personal detail.

The rhythms are enchanting, the metaphors luminous, and the themes profound, ranging from love and loss to hope and resilience. Every page offers a revelation, a moment to pause and reflect on life’s beauty and fragility.

This collection doesn’t just invite you to read; it dares you to feel, to see the world anew, and to uncover the poetry within yourself. A triumph of language and art—an absolute must-read.

I pick up poetry every now and then but it’s usually too complex for me to truly enjoy. Clouds on the Ground is accessible and relatable, filled with little zingers that hit you right in the heart. It was an emotional journey that I can’t wait to take again.

What I loved best was how open to interpretation it was. Every use of “you” could be applied to my experiences with grief, chronic pain, loneliness, and peace. I felt heard and seen when I read this poetry.

Clouds on the Ground is a journey that left me introspective and emotionally filled. I can’t wait to read it again and share it with others.

I was drawn to Autumn William's book due to its central theme which is close to my heart, as I have a daughter who is recovering from M.E. It is a testament to Williams' resilience that she has been able to apply herself to work around her illness to write these thoughtful poetic musings which draw the reader into her experience and reveal something of the desperate poignancy and sadness which surrounds this frustrating and terribly unfair illness. But this book demonstrates that Williams' life will not be defined by her illness, but by her creativity, and her beautiful words. A cathartic process., and a very original title. Warmly recommended.

What a great collection this is! I’ve started following Autumn and enjoying her writing on instagram- so just had to check out her new book - it didn’t disappoint either.

Autumn Williams’ Clouds on the Ground invites us on a poetic voyage that delves into the delicate balance between the splendor of nature and the landscape of dreams. She has organised her poetry into seasons but
a reality where time shifts and demonstrates how they meld into one another through her carefully selling words. Her poetry emerges as a pathway connecting the present with the possibilities of the future.

As the collection progresses, it unveils rich layers of significance, resonating with our shared human experiences of love, loss, hope, and rebirth. Much of the writing resonated with me and is so emotional and powerful too.

A highly recommended read for all poetry lovers.
