After reading the first book in the Chef For Violante series by Saira Musa, I was eager to read the next book, Persuading Her My Way. The first book left me a bit underwhelmed and with some questions that I hoped the next instalments would answer… and while some of them were, I now have new questions to add to my list.

Before I get into that, I want to start with the writing. From book one to book two, it improved a great deal, and while there were a few pacing issues throughout the story, it was easier to get through book two. This time, I didn’t find myself going back to read previous paragraphs to make sure I wasn’t missing any details. It all went smoothly, though I do think that there were a few scenes that went on for a bit too long.

There were a few moments in the story that felt unearned or a little bit too convenient, that pulled me out from the story, because besides the will they-won’t they between Claudia and Amando, there isn’t much else driving the story. I can’t think of a moment where I was rooting for any of the characters to succeed because there hasn’t been any challenges either of them need to overcome… except for, maybe, their desire for one another. I also still find Amando unlikeable, so that keeps me from rooting for him. He’s not as unlikeable as he was in the previous book but still, I cannot get behind him as a character. There were moments where he was too controlling and pushy. I get that he has baggage and some issues he needs to work on, but I still don’t understand why he reacted the way he did in book one towards Claudia after she fainted in his restaurant. He took advantage of someone who was not okay, who was still in the hospital, and got her to sign an awful contract after he decided of his own free will to pay off her medical bills… and maybe I’m over thinking this, but that moment in book one was where my dislike for him began. I personally believe that Claudia is too good for this man. I do not understand what she sees in him beyond his physical appearance. Claudia is by no means a perfect character, she would be too boring if that were the case, but with her, I can understand the reason behind her actions, even if I don’t like what she is doing.

Overall, Persuading Her My Way by Saira Musa is a good sequel. It is not a perfect book, but it is better than book one and I am glad that I decided to read it. I’m hoping book three is even better and that we get to see Amando continue to develop as a character because I don’t really feel any chemistry between them, and I think Claudia could do better. I also must mention that this book contains graphic content and if that is not something you’re not comfortable with, you might want to skip this book… but on the other hand, if you like that type of thing, go ahead and pick it up.

I love reading and sharing my thoughts with others to encourage them to read something they might not know existed or perhaps had some misconceptions about the work. I also love discovering the hidden gems of the literary world.

Chapter 1

Duck diving into the waves of the sea, Claudia surfaced, breaking the foamy water to gasp in a breath. The stretch of the bay was famous for surfingin Santa Cruz, and surfers here did not tolerate outsiders. It took Claudia a little time to get accepted because she was good. If you were not a good surfer, the guys and gals who owned the surf here were not simply good surfers but California’s best surfers. As she set up another round, she faced the shore and paddled on her board. The wave swell came in, and she set off to roll with the coaster. As the wave crashed over her head and tunneled into a huge tube, she swung the board parallel to the wave to ride the tube. The tubed channel started to close in and narrow, and she bulleted before the wave could break upon her.

Exhilarated by that last wave, Claudia decided to make her way to shore. She jumped off her surfboard and plowed her leashed feet through the foamy water to shore. Shuffling along the sand, she dropped her board on the dune before bending down to unleash her right ankle. Carrying the board on her hip with the leash looped in her hand, she supported the board as she walked to the truck to load up.

While taking off the leash, a shadow moved across her back. She swung her head and saw fellow surfers that passed by. They complimented her on the way she handled the surf. She smiled and gave demure thanks. Another shadow side-lined her as she was tying up her surfboard in the tray of her truck, but she did not look this time. Then suddenly, a voice reached out to her and stopped her in her tracks.

“You were not kidding. You do surf,” Amando stood a mere two feet away from her. His eyes took in the body suit she wore, and all her curves were displayed, from breasts to hips to legs. The suit clung to her like a second skin causing his blood to begin to boil.

“You are a hard person to find. It took much cajoling to coerce your neighbor and boss to give me information. I did not know you were so good,” he continued in the same amazed tone.

“What do you want? What is your reason for stalking me?”

she enquired of him.

Taken aback by the stalking she suggested, he nearly emptied his anger again on her head. He had to control this. She was always saying something to irritate the hell out of him.

She was an enigma to him; after a week’s break from his work and commitments, he was restless. He kept away from her area so he would not run into her. But that did not help his restlessness. He only had to close his eyes and recall the feel of her lips under his and her heat and sexy curves melding into his body. In his sleep, he dreamt of her teasing him with her tongue and doing sinfully good things to him, and he would wake up sweating with a powerfully hard erection.
