Dagmara Sitek’s 2024 book Beefy Goes from Bully to Buddy is a new installment in the Courage Tales series and introduces the troubled character, Beefy, to the Super Buddies team with Inaya, Loris, Cam, and everybody’s hero-bot Giorgio.
Young Beefy seems to have it all. He is a star of his school soccer team and enjoys praise at school, but he does not have support and attention at home. Though he is from a wealthy family, he feels resentment toward other kids with more loving families. One day after a big game, he becomes so jealous of his classmate Gavin that he acts as the bully and almost beats him up. Thankfully, the Super Buddy team arrives in time to save Gavin.
Still angry, Beefy whacks his hand, trying to bully Giorgio, so they decide to take him home to speak with his parents. When they arrive at his home, his parents are missing, but their phones and keys are still there. As they look around the house for his parents, Beefy shows the team various amazing inventions he made. The Super Buddies are very impressed and see he is much more than just a bully.
They then discover that his parents were magically pulled into Beefy’s favorite video game, Trumble the Goblin. Whoosh, in the next instant, they are pulled in too. Can the team escape the virtual world? Can the Super Buddies rescue Beefy’s parent from the misguided troll Trumble? That is a journey of discovery that is worth taking together as a family, over and over again.
Dagmara Sitek’s book Beefy Goes from Bully to Buddy, is a great addition to the Super Buddy series and a timeless story of friendship and the importance of a loving family in our lives. The illustration style of Lau Frank uses a vibrant pastel pallet and fills the book with fun, imaginative, and engaging images that excite you to turn every page. Loved it. I give this book five out of five stars (5 of 5).
