I remember my first day of kindergarten. I was so excited, I couldn't wait to go to school. I also remember being mad at my mother because she wouldn't help me tie my shoes and I was afraid I would be late for school! I relieved that joy and excitement that I felt for my very first day of school after reading ABC's of Kindergarten by Latoshia Martin.
Come join Mrs. Dune and her Amazing kindergarten class as they skip through their Beautifully illustrated day. Readers are taken on a tour through the school with the Curvaceous teacher and we even get to sit in on a few Delightful classes such as mathematics. And Experience the makings of new Friendships.
One thing that really captivated my attention about this book was the creatively drawn illustrations. Sometimes when children are first learning to read or maybe just don't know all the words, they do relie on the pictures. We are treated to page after page of colorful images to cherish and I throughly enjoyed the pictures because it makes it easy to discuss the book with smaller children who can't read yet. A picture is truly worth a thousand words, so that makes this book priceless. I also like the realistic depictions of the teacher, Mrs. Dune as well as the lunch lady, Ms. Grimes.
Within the story the children and adults are seen as learning to all get along with those of other ethnicities and nationalities (something that will serve them well in the real world). And it's nice to see the different parents, lining up in a single file and orderly line to pick up their kids. I give ABC'S of Kindergarten by Latoshia Martin 5 out of 5 Gold stars for providing children, parents, and other caregivers a view of school with "Zero tears and happy cheers."
