A Daydream a Day is a collection of cute drawings and inspirational poetry about growing up, defining success, and falling in love. A book with fifty black-and-white, cartoon-style drawings: readers will be immersed in the daydreams of a young adult trying to make sense of life.
The collection is divided into five parts—on a continuum from being lost, to facing inner demons, and finding life direction. Each drawing and poem compel readers to consider life, extracting simple but profound truths through visual art: pursue your dreams, stay humble, and never give up.
Along the way, readers will encounter a vast expanse of cartoon characters—a skydiver; a big, furry bear; and a boy catching feelings. In addition, the collection serves as a reference and inspiration for digital artists in search of new ideas on brush/pen, background, and shading techniques.
Ivan Tu’s collection is perfect for young adults searching for happiness in a confusing and competitive world. Ivan discovered how to be happy in the act of creation, and hopes his words and drawings leave a smile on your face too.

A Daydream A Day by Ivan Tu is a collection of poems that are short, easy to read, and easy to relate to. The poems encompass what young adults experience on daily basis, from feeling inadequate, to worrying, to loss, to fear, to isolation, all the way up to hope, perseverance, aspiration, and dedication.
The art work spread across the book is rather simple but quite expressive, it brings the words to life without taking the attention from them and adds to the experience of this book as a whole.
The quick poems and the unpretentious art work seems to have come out straight out of the author’s day dreams, making the book feel like a physical day dream, which makes the title quite fitting.
The problem with the book, though, is that it could have used some editing. While some poems are lyrical and profound and encouraging, others are just too silly to be taken seriously – this might have been the intention of the author, to have some silliness breaking the tension of the young adult life, but it just didn’t work out that way in this book.
Some poems also felt like the writer was merely trying to stick to a rhyme, or like he was trying to get all of his thoughts out at once, but, unfortunately, that’s not enough to make a poem.
I do recommend this book to anyone who enjoys short poems and simple art work that are bound to make people of all ages feel something.
