Tina Crouch is a writer who came by her love of words quite honestly -- as a child, she kept a flashlight under her bed to keep reading after her parents turned off the lights -- and used her affinity for English in various marketing, editing, and coaching jobs.

After getting a business degree, traveling to various countries abroad, meeting interesting people, and learning Italian for fun, she had the great idea to start her company Tina Teaches English. Tina's 1-on-1 and group video coaching sessions are where she developed her 8 Steps for Interview Prep material.

Offline, she's probably living up to her Horse Girl (TM) reputation, sitting in an English (what else?) saddle.

I loved this book, it’s short but packed w only usable information, no fluff added. The part that I resonated w and enjoyed learning the most were questions to ask the interviewer at the end of the interview, and on my last interview I remember them asking that and I honestly didn’t have any. The job was pretty straight forward, however when I walked into the first interview I was interviewed by TWO women, which I’d never been interviewed by two people before. But the nerves shook off easily enough because they were both so easy going and likable. I felt really good about the interview even kind of threw out both my hands and shook their hands at the same time w out giving it much thought. I think they found it charming. I got the job.

This was a well written, thorough guide to preparing for an interview. While it's designed for people learning English as a second language, it's very good info for anyone preparing for a job interview. My favorite part of the book was the part where it encourages everyone to cultivate a growth mindset. That was great life advice. The book has tips on what to do to get ready. It recommends that you practice talking about yourself, and if you're learning English, to make sure you practice the terminology related to the job you're applying for. Great tips on brushing up your online presence, as well as practical advice for social behavior.

The author of this book is an English teacher, which is a great person to have providing advice on some of the basics of interviewing that don't seem as basic when English isn't your first language. She covers a range of important topics; researching a company, how to answer specific questions, etiquette, the importance of YOU asking questions and much more. I particularly like that she emphasizes the importance of practice. If you want to get ahead, read this book and practice, practice, practice.

Although the step-by-step interview guide is designed for English as a second language learners, it's also beneficial for anyone seeking employment. Helpful tips include keeping the focus on helping an employer, the importance of researching the company before the interview, and roleplaying the interview with a friend or family member. The sample interview questions at the end of the book are a sweet bonus.

Books like this rock IMO because they pack a lot of useful information in each paragraph without being boring or redundant.

This is a quick lunchtime or bedtime read.
