Book editor and book designer with over half a century of experience, working with serious authors of nonfiction and fiction in many genres.
I am chief cook and bottle washer at Dick Margulis Creative Services, where my focus is on thoughtful editing, appropriate design, expert production, and comprehensive project management, for book publishers of all sizes, including self-publishing authors. I began correcting my elders as a small child and have been editing one thing or another for over half a century. I learned to set type at an early age and have been studying and practicing typography ever since.
Developmental editing, line editing, copyediting, design, composition, cover design, production, and project management on all kinds of books, for publishers large and small. It's my passion, and I'm good at it.
Contract and salaried positions working for manufacturers, software companies, and others, writing, editing, and designing all manner of things.
I am a person of broad experience and exposure. Advertising copywriter, magazine columnist, organic farmer, bread baker, herbarist, and, yes, a stint in a butcher shop. And all of that background knowledge has proved useful in book editing. All of it.
