Darlene Bordwell

Darlene Bordwell – Editor

30 years of experience, both in-house and freelance, copyediting and proofreading textbooks, corporate publications, some fiction.

Overview

I'm a book editor with 30 years of experience in copyediting and proofreading textbooks (hard and soft sciences, business, computers and technology) and corporate publications, with a bit of travel, history, and fiction editing on the side, the latter projects completed directly with authors. Roughly half of my career has been spent as a work-at-home freelancer.

My process of working directly with authors is fairly flexible. Based on authors' needs and what they want to achieve, I can do a heavy edit with some rewriting or give the manuscript a lighter hand. If I feel reorganization or heavy rewriting is required, I will discuss that with the author and make suggestions rather than tackle it myself. In short, I strive to find a working style with which both the author and I are comfortable and so that we both feel we are doing what's best for the project.
