I am an editor with a taste for the unusual; I record and release music on my own record label, write music reviews for the national press and work in my dungarees. I'm happy to get emotionally involved with an edit or just to stay back and catch every stray apostrophe.
I cut my teeth learning as I went at an independent Irish publishing house, commissioning manuscripts and project managing them through to launch. My skills were then formally developed by a market leading digital and physical publisher. I can boast an excellent eye for detail and a real intolerance for badly constructed sentences.
I work quickly, but I am fiercely efficient and relentlessly thorough.
My time at TR has seen me develop my skills with the rapidity and comprehensiveness only a market-leading company can offer; I can boast xml coding and content management skills as well as a thorough grasp of all aspects of written English. Hours each day were spent proofing, copy-editing and authoring highly complicated documents and news, and as a result I am comfortable working to tight deadlines, and with standards worthy of such a respected organisation.
Bluemoose Books is an independent publisher which manages to make waves in the industry through innovative marketing and a bold catalogue. My editorial board role includes advising on submitted manuscripts, as well as later involvement in the editing and proofing stages of accepted manuscripts.
This role, in particular, has given me valuable insights into dealing with manuscripts which are nearly there, but need a little bit of attention to unleash their full potential.
Primarily commissioning manuscripts, I regularly sat with authors talking through their work and collaborating on in-depth edits. Between writing jacket and marketing copy, I proofread many manuscripts and edited a catalogue and history of Bradshaw Books publications since 1989.
