Overview

Chayenne is a writer and acquiring editor with over three years professional editorial experience at a big five publishing house where she provided editorial support to the Editor-in-Chief in addition to building and project managing her own budding list of authors and titles. She graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Psychology, and has four years worth of editorial experience at publications like Adult Mag, VICE, Marie Claire, and Interview Magazine. After hours, she teaches and studies latin dance. A Texas native, she now wears her boots in Harlem.

She believes that the best kind of editorial relationship can often be described as a therapeutic one. Her approach is informed by a variety of psychological practices designed to help you unpack the unconscious forces at work in your writing, summon your most authentic voice, and reveal the story behind the story that you wish to tell.

Areas of Interest:

Intimate literary fiction and provocative commercial fiction that digs deep into the psychology of its characters. Stories about mothers are of special interest as are bildungsromans, and unique portraits of womanhood. Unreliable or unlikable narrators are especially encouraged, as are dark stories of taboo and the ugly side of life. Narratives on mental health, disorder, and addiction are welcome.

She is also interested in global narratives involving travel or the diaspora, stories centering BIPOC/LGBTQIA experiences, and writing that engages with questions of identity and belonging. Stories that concern themselves with being the “only one” are of special interest, as are stories of overcoming and reinvention, including memoir that makes the personal political and vice versa.

New twists on old tales, social thrillers, speculative fiction, and near future settings all encouraged.
