Overview

Hi! I'm a Chicago Manual of Style–certified editor with 10+ years' experience editing, copyediting, and proofreading manuscripts and corporate material. I'm the copy chief for an award-winning content agency in New York City (clients include Fortune 500 businesses across energy, music, finance, pharma, etc.), and I freelance for Penguin Random House, Hachette Book Group, and independent authors, among other clients.

I love learning about my authors, what drove them to write the story, and what they want to achieve in the final product. I'm most inclined toward fiction (though I've also enjoyed editing memoirs), and I excel at ensuring consistency, believability, strength of characters, and compelling dialogue. To preserve author voice, my default is to use a light hand, though I will amend copy for grammar and punctuation as I go. If something "doesn't work," I gently explain why. I lean toward clarity over complexity, but as long as your reader won't stumble, I'm hands off.

To me, the relationship between author and editor is magical! Writing a book is certainly a heftier task than critiquing and improving one, yet the respect we have for each other's strengths is a big part of why I enjoy being an editor. Paraphrasing Thomas McCormack from his book The Fiction Editor, the Novel, and the Novelist, my job is to help you write your best story.
