Overview
I offer copy/line editing as well as structural and developmental editing, editorial reports and manuscript assessment, mainly in commercial fiction – including reading group, women's fiction, historical, psychological suspense and more – along with some narrative non-fiction and memoir. I work with both publishers (e.g. Two Roads, HarperCollins and Boldwood) and independent authors.
I have an excellent overview of the market and am able to look at the bigger picture as well as offering forensic attention to detail. I build strong and productive working relationships with the authors I work with and am used to working under pressure and to deadlines. I'm a voracious reader (generally found with my nose in a book or talking about books on Twitter) and I also do ghostwriting and research, primarily – but not exclusively – for non-fiction books. I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading and the Society of Authors.
Books I have worked on recently include:
Madame Burova – Ruth Hogan (Two Roads)
Daughters of War – Dinah Jefferies (HarperCollins)
A Cursed Place – Peter Hanington (Two Roads)
The Good Wife – Eleanor Porter (Boldwood, 2021)
The Lip – Charlie Carroll (Two Roads)
Tracks – Karen Woods (HarperNorth)
The Making of Mrs Petrakis – Mary Karras (Two Roads)
Nellie's Heartbreak – Rosie Clarke (Boldwood)
The Old Ducks' Club – Moira Please (Boldwood)
Heroic Animals – Clare Balding (John Murray)
The Cornish Midwife – Jo Bartlett (Boldwood)
“Cari is an absolute pleasure to work with. She has an invaluable eye for detail, and a sure but sensitive editorial hand. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her.” (Ruth Hogan)
