Overview

I excel at editing genre fiction, and love to assess and restructure plots (I typically use the Save the Cat method of plotting.) I've also helped out literary fiction authors with plotting issues using techniques I've learned from editing genre fiction.

While at Macmillan, I worked with high-profile authors, including R.L. Stine and Meg Cabot.

I am also a strategically-minded person with a solid understanding of both the traditional publishing and self-publishing businesses.

Favorite genres:
๐ŸŽ” romance (especially LGBTQ+)
๐ŸŽ” fantasy
๐ŸŽ” historical
๐ŸŽ” science fiction
๐ŸŽ” young adult
๐ŸŽ” non-fiction
๐ŸŽ” middle-grade

Types of edits that I offer:
โœŽ Developmental Edit
โœŽ Editorial Assessment
โœŽ Copy Edit
โœŽ Proofread
โœŽ Query letter review

I'm also happy to work with you to figure out an out-of-the box service that will best help you with your project.

For example:
โ˜… If you're in the planning stages of a new project, I can read your character descriptions and beat sheet/plot summary and give feedback
โ˜… If you're actively drafting something, I can act like a critique partner and read your pages week by week (or month by month) and give feedback while you're still working on it.
โ˜… If there's something else you need help with, let me know!

And of course, if youโ€™re unsure of what service you need, let me know!

Also, Iโ€™d like to try to work with your budget, so if you have one, please let me know. I set my prices based on a variety of factors, including (but not limited to) word count, type of edit, amount of work the manuscript needs, etc.

Chris was a joy to work with! I selected her because she asked for my first chapter and gave me a sample edit. No other editor on my "offer list" was willing to put in that work. Chris is a perfect balance of providing corrections and asking the right questions without losing the author's voice. I will hire her for my next book...no doubt!

Chris provided prompt feedback on my query letter. I was able to write back and forth with her for a few drafts until we got to one we both thought worked. She was able to cut out a lot of the excess words in my query letter that weren't adding much, but that I initially didn't want to remove - it really highlights the importance of having another (professional!) person's eyes on your work. She...

I am so glad I chose to work with Chris! Throughout our collaboration, and even before I accepted any offers, Chris has been responsive, professional, and informative. Chris provided me with a range of options and prices for different types of services, which made my decision easier. At all times, Chris was transparent, clear, and candid. I have been working on my manuscript for two years, and...

Chris h ad some good ideas that I am incorporating in my revisions to my novel. Unfortunately, when I asked her to look at a few paragraphs of revision, which I would pay extra for, just to see if I understood what she had told me to do, she refused to look at them. Now I need to hire another editor to see if I have solved the problem she described. If Chris is not going to look at a few paragr...
