Life-long writer, editor, publisher. I write best in bite-sized pieces and in borrowed rooms. Have written three novels, two collections of vignettes in progress, numerous essays, and a business book.
Over the years I've channeled my writing into the perceived need to make a living. Consequently, I've been a journalist, editor, and publisher, a science writer, a public relations practitioner, a diplomat, and I have taught both creative writing and journalism at the university level. Along the way I won awards for my reporting and was honored with the top award of the Florida Public Relations Association, the Golden Image Award. Somewhere in there I also managed to do considerable public speaking and on-air radio and TV interviews and guest appearances, and I found myself proficient at obtaining media coverage.
Now I am at one of those junctures in life where one either has to put up or shut up and so, being notoriously bad at shutting up, at last I primarily am doing the writing I decide is worth doing (not that most of the rest of it wasn't worth doing, since it was, but it just wasn't always of my own preference). I'm crossing new frontiers writing novels, having completed three so far with more in progress, and collections of short stories and vignettes, some a bit on the dark side, some tongue-in-cheek humorous. I also have written and self-published a business book, an attempt at answering my clients' questions in one go rather than a hundred times over. And I have more projects slated than I can keep up with. Writing is still challenging, but lots of fun (in between head-banging moments) and, more than anything, I'm gratified to see the finished products.
I've always been a bit of a maverick in my writing, as in other aspects of life. I love experimenting with cross-over formats and genres and am not afraid to bend the rules when that is called for. But I do at least know the rules which, as we've all been told, is the first condition of being able to bend them.
Along with my writing, I offer my services to assist other authors with their work. As with my writing, I edit and critique both fiction and non-fiction. I have a great attention to detail and respect the need for realism and accuracy, whatever the genre. I'd be happy to consult with you on your project.
