I'm an editorial designer specialising in typography and typesetting—nothing pleases me more than a well set page! I spent the last five years in London, successfully honing this skill whilst working on a number of sport and lifestyle magazines. Latterly I worked at the internationally acclaimed educational publisher, Macmillan Education, where I began working on book covers and mechanicals and found my true love.

I currently split my time between London and New York.

Work experience

Freelance

April, 2016 – Present (about 1 year)

Range of printed projects including book covers and hand lettering typographic commissions.

Designer

Macmillan Education

December, 2014 – April, 2016 (over 1 year)

Worked on mock designs for educational courses teaching english as a second language. This included the mechanicals and cover design.

I was also lead cover designer and typesetter for adult international test papers created in partnership with Trinity College. With a small print-run of 4,000 it is primarily for the Italian speaking markets and the first joint venture of Trinity College and Macmillan Education. Cover designs confirmed within first draft, allowing project to get ahead of schedule.

Art Director

The Ski Club of Great Britain

April, 2014 – November, 2014 (7 months)

Re-design members' magazines; ski+board, and Elevation (including features, covers, adverts, advertorials, FOB, photography shoots, design templates). The new design was well received and in a survey of 200 randomly selected members, 90% stated that ski+board was a 'valuable part of their membership' at the end of the 2014/15 season. Prior to my working within the company, it was scheduled to be cancelled due to a lack of perceived interest from the members.

Designer

TriNorth Communications Ltd

October, 2011 – November, 2014 (about 3 years)

Lead designer and occasional photographer for Netball, a quarterly magazine delivered to over 80,000 members – one of the biggest titles in it’s respective sporting field at the time. It contributed to the success of National Governing Body, England Netball winning the BT Sport Industry Awards 2014.

I also contributed to the design of a number of sports and lifestyle magazines, All Out Cricket, Hockey, Grid Iron (the only American football magazine in the UK) and Sportsister.

Annabel provided a similarly unique and well-crafted cover for the Spanish translation of my book. She was responsive throughout several rounds of edits and surpassed my expectations again.

Annabel is a true artist! I so thankful my Cover design journey on Reedsy has been with her. In addition to her design craft, she is a great but succinct communicator and project manager. The end result is beyond my expectations and feel that she took the time to capture the essence of my work to produce an engaging piece.

As we were working on a how to book, it was extremely important that the design enhance the experience and the images boost the ease of understanding, and Annabel did wonderfully! We worked closely for the duration of the project, and she has been a blessing! Hard working, dedicated, professional and very easy to communicate with. It was an absolute pleasure to work with Annabel! Thank you...

I absolutely enjoyed working with Annabel. She is a fantastic communicator and is very understanding in regards to revisions. I was confused about formatting and she took the time to explain the different software, apps and devices. Annabel knows her stuff and pays attention to detail! I hope to work with her again in the future.
