I’m a book designer with nearly four years of experiencein the publishing industry. While I specialize in interior design and desktop publishing/typesetting, I've also designed packaged books, which included the cover/jacket.

I currently work full-time at Alfred A. Knopf, designing interiors for Knopf, Doubleday, Pantheon, and Vintage/Anchor originals, both 1- and 4-color. I've designed a number of New York Times bestsellers, including Samantha Irby's "We Are Never Meeting in Real Life" and Luke Harding's "Collusion", as well as a 2018 New York Times Notable Book, "Immigrant, Montana" by Amitava Kumar. In addition to fiction and nonfiction trade, I've designed anthologies and cookbooks, including most recently, Felidia, Lidia Bastianich's latest cookbook.

Outside of my full-time job, I work as a freelance desktop publisher for Simon & Schuster, and take on various design projects from self-published authors and major publishing houses, including S&S and Hachette. These books range from 4-color children's board books to 2-color nonfiction hardcovers, and everything in between.

Since 2017, I've designed the New York Book Show catalog (cover and interior) for the Book Industry Guild of New York. The show’s aim is to showcase the best books as judged by a panel of industry professionals. Judges evaluate manufacturing, production, and design qualities. The winners are selected from hundreds of entries sent in by publishers and suppliers from around the country. The catalog celebrates the Book Show winners, with each book getting its own page or spread.

Work experience

Associate Designer

Penguin Random House
August, 2016 – Present (over 3 years)

Currently a book interior designer at Alfred A. Knopf within the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, working closely with the production and editorial departments to ensure quality hardcover books. Responsibilities include designing book interiors, photo inserts, and casing materials, checking passes, making corrections, and reviewing blues and proofs. I've worked on both 1- and 4-color books. A strong understanding of typography, color theory, and composition is required.

Freelance Desktop Publisher

Simon & Schuster
April, 2018 – Present (over 1 year)

In addition to working full-time, I freelance for S&S as a desktop publisher. I’m responsible for the composition and typesetting of new books, including flowing and paging new books in InDesign and making corrections to existing files. Because the job is deadline-sensitive, strong time-management skills and an attention to detail is required.

Ebook Production Assistant

Simon & Schuster
February, 2016 – August, 2016 (6 months)

While at Simon & Schuster, I worked as the ebook imprint specialist for the imprint, Touchstone, designing and developing ebooks using HTML and CSS. I also managed Touchstone’s front- and backlist titles, making corrections and updates to the files as needed. Other responsibilities included designing and developing egalleys for all adult imprints, and several children’s, as the egalley specialist. I demonstrated effective communication with the production and editorial departments. The position required a strong attention to detail, as any minor error written in the code would result in a broken ebook file.

Anna was wonderfully professional. She substantially improved my book. Although we did not get to pursue the original book series as the scope of the project changed, I recommend Anna and hope to work with her again someday.
