Professional book interior designer with years of experience working with major publishing houses, including PRH, S&S, and Hachette.
Currently a book interior designer at Alfred A. Knopf within the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, working closely with the production and editorial departments to ensure quality hardcover books. Responsibilities include designing book interiors, photo inserts, and casing materials, checking passes, making corrections, and reviewing blues and proofs. I've worked on both 1- and 4-color books. A strong understanding of typography, color theory, and composition is required.
In addition to working full-time, I freelance for S&S as a desktop publisher. I’m responsible for the composition and typesetting of new books, including flowing and paging new books in InDesign and making corrections to existing files. Because the job is deadline-sensitive, strong time-management skills and an attention to detail is required.
While at Simon & Schuster, I worked as the ebook imprint specialist for the imprint, Touchstone, designing and developing ebooks using HTML and CSS. I also managed Touchstone’s front- and backlist titles, making corrections and updates to the files as needed. Other responsibilities included designing and developing egalleys for all adult imprints, and several children’s, as the egalley specialist. I demonstrated effective communication with the production and editorial departments. The position required a strong attention to detail, as any minor error written in the code would result in a broken ebook file.
