Editor, proofreader and literary translator (German to English)
I translate fiction and other creative/marketing texts from German into English, and proofread and edit fiction for UK publishers. In 2017, my co-translation 'Eichmann's Executioner' by Astrid Dehe and Achim Engstler was published in the US by The New Press. I recently copy edited 'A Modern Family' by Helga Flatland for Orenda Books (due for publication in June 2019).
My role was to support the fiction publisher on all aspects of the literary fiction list, such as by writing and proofreading jacket copy, selecting suitable translators for projects, applying for and managing all translation grants, liaising with authors and translators throughout the publishing process, and reading translated fiction submissions. I proofread and line edited manuscripts, working with translators and authors to resolve any queries before going to copy edit.
I translated texts from German into English for clients across Europe, working primarily with marketing texts, translating content from websites, corporate communications, newsletters, arts and crafts magazines, recipes, and blurbs and bibliographic information for publishers. I proofread translations from a range of languages and edited texts written in English by both native and non-native speakers.
I worked as a translator and proofreader of marketing and other commercial texts for a busy translation agency. This role required a very high level of accuracy and enabled me to further develop my keen eye for detail. As the principle in-house proofreader, I was responsible for ensuring consistency and compliance with the house style guide by all in-house and freelance translators.
